G. Vittori, CRUCIFIXION
G. Vittori, CRUCIFIXION
This is a mid-century modern abstract depiction of Christ on the Cross.
The artist was apparently Italian as the piece is stamped on the back "La Saletta" art gallery, and a gallery by that name is today located in Taranto, Italy.
Abstract renderings of the Crucifixion are not always successful for the purpose of Christian devotion. Here, the partial darkening of Christ's body might seem irreverent, but it must be recalled that, according to the Scriptures, Christ was "made sin" for the redemption of sinners. If the body of Christ is here taken to be overshadowed by sin, that would be quite consistent with what Christians believe, and should remember, regarding what transpired on Calvary.
Oil on canvas. Framed and behind glass. The photographs posted here show much reflection on account of the glass.
