Masterful painting of a grand, imposing stone house which nonetheless welcomes with an open door. MaryEtta Thorn (b. 1947), originally from Washington, DC, was a realist painter who often depicted architectural scenes in exquisite and loving detail, as she does here. She did some of her painting in Britain, where this piece likely originated. By reference to her other work this piece perhaps dates from the 1980s.
