Edward G. Eisenlohr, POPLARS IN THE SUMMER WIND

$2,000.00

An enchanting piece by German American early Texas artist Edward G. Eisenlohr (1872-1961). Eisenlohr was born in Ohio but his family moved to Texas when he was two years old. His family spent two years in Europe when Eisenlohr was still a boy, and he returned to Europe in 1907 as an adult to study art there. In all likelihood this piece was composed in Europe. It probably remained there until 2012 when it was auctioned off by a German auction house.

Oil on board.

Image 20" x 13.75".

Frame 26.75" x 20.5"

This piece sold at auction in 2012 for about $1,100 (see photo of the 2012 piece on liveauctioneers.com or request it from the seller). The price was well below average for Eisenlohr pieces, owing to both the subpar condition of the piece--it had some missing paint--and to the fact that his works are not in much demand in Germany.

Sometime after the 2012 sale, some inpainting was done by a previous owner. I have now had the painting restored by Maris Salmins of Life on the Wall (Houston). He removed prior inpainting and did some inpainting of his own. I consider his the definitive restoration of the piece for the foreseeable future.
